Top MetroABQ Millennial Destination: Parkland Hills 87108

This info below is re-printed from an article by KRQE. I am always interested in where & why folks are moving to certain areas of the MetroABQ. Parkland Hills is a great place to move to: numerous pocket greenspaces & established parks, close to all the shopping & restaurants found in Nob Hill; the neighborhood is bounded by San Mateo & Carlisle Blvds on the east & west, & is very centrally located in the city. The housing stock is varied, from large 3000-5000sqft homes, to smaller two-bedroom one bath opportunity residences. The main image above is a Mid-Century Modern home listed in Parkland Hills that is for sale for $575,000. You can see the 3-D Walking Tour here: 600 Montclaire SE. Scroll down to the address...

September 18th, 2018. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Masses of millennials are moving to one part of the metro and it's not where you might think.

"I didn't know it existed," said Zach Kareem, who lives in the Southeast Heights Neighborhood.

Even people who have lived there for years, like Kareem, admit they didn't know anything about it until they moved there.

"I'd never been here. I'd lived in Albuquerque for like 10 years," said Kareem.

According to a new study, the neighborhood bordering Lead and Carlisle makes up a large part of the most popular zip code in New Mexico for millennials.

"I mean they're big beautiful custom built homes, they're older but they have a lot of character," said Kareem.

The study, compiled and published by rental website Rent Cafe, breaks down the most popular 'millennial zip codes' by the percentage of millennials who have moved there over the past several years.

The 87108 zip code was the most popular by far, earning 14.3 percent of the vote.

Of the ten New Mexico zip codes on the list, nine are in the Albuquerque metro area.

"Millennials are really looking for value in homes," said Danny Vigil, the President of the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors.

Vigil says the value in the list's most popular neighborhood lies in the custom built homes, some of which are in need of some renovations.

"Older homes are being refurbished - fixed up - and it's millennial's that are doing that," said Vigil

On top of that, people who live there now say they like how close it is to popular spots like Downtown Albuquerque, Nob Hill, and UNM.

They also like all of the nearby parks.

"I think this neighborhood has a lot of great parks that are hidden," said Kareem.
