The ABQ summer heat can sometimes become unbearable before and between the monsoon rains. Escaping to one of dozens of Green Spaces in the Metro area is always a welcome relief. Its just cooler surrounded by grass and trees! There are numerous Green Spaces in Albuquerquegolf courses, along the mountain or river, etc. The following is a small sampling of a few unique ABQ city parks.
The Roosevelt Park photo above is in an area west of the UNM Campus, it was built during the first Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this large SE Heights park near CNM has 80 year old trees and rolling hills...
Above is Downtowns Robinson Park , home to the Saturday Growers Market. Hundreds come out each week to buy produce & hundreds of other items, & to eat breakfast burritos and roll around on the grass. This is probably the largest Growers Market in the city.
Above is McDuffie or Hidden Park, located just east of Carlisle near the UNM North Campus. Access is only via discreet paths between designated yards. See one of the entry ways below. The park is surrounded entirely by houses…most people drive or walk past the park and never know it's there, tucked among houses & behind 60 year old tall trees.
Directly below is one of the entries to the park. Inside the park sits an unobtrusive Little Free Library at the northwest entry...
East of Tramway Blvd, before the city Open Space trails, sits Embudo Hills Park, above , near where Lomas & Monte Largo meet. The Sandia mountains seem to be within an arms reach…turn around, though, and the MetroABQ area spans the horizon as far as you can see.
